As we grow into more sophisticated skin we shall realize the wisdom in rethinking everything.

You can be pleased with nothing when you are not pleased with yourself.
–Lady Mary Wortley Montagu

I have travelled a long damn way to be able to confidently say what words don’t quite do justice to. It is only the dreams I have that honors the journey I’ve been on and the energy I now give birth to. I’ve looked at myself through the eyes of others for too long, until I had the strength to look at myself through my own; and after which, it took me a long time to believe something different from the bill of goods I was sold—the  ones I bought and all that I had already owned. It was all a bill of lies about me which I needed to unload.

The road of responsibility isn’t easily travelled, and the lessons on that road aren’t easily gotten. You are either going to lose yourself to an environment of people who aren’t interested in being better than what they are, or you’re going to find yourself on the road of responsibility, travelled only by those who are driven to the kind of living that leaves a legacy that won’t be soon forgotten. If you think that such a life isn’t possible for you, you must know that we are the ones we must give birth to. It is our own truths that are the most difficult to pursue. The more you get to know your own heart, you will learn that it is a journey not only worth the finish but most certainly worth the start. It is my prayer that, as you get to know yourself, your faith leads you to the better parts. 01/11/10 Copyright © 2010 Akil Johnson All Rights Reserved

This is so beautiful. It is excatly what I needed to hear at this point in my life. Thank you for being so insightful and encouraging and loving. Yes, there is a balance between the world and ourselves and often the world is annoyed by people who are not just trying to please the outside world, the world is annoyed by people who have a true sense of self which challenges that person to reach new hieghts.
